Jazz is an American musical art form which originated around the beginning of the 20th century in African American communities in the Southern United States from a confluence of African and European music traditions. Jazz has, from its early inception, spawned a variety of subgenres, from Rag-time, New Orleans Dixieland , big band-style swing , European jazz, bebop, smooth jazz, cool jazz, free jazz, hard bop, soul jazz, experimental and straight ahead jazz, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazz,, jazz-rock fusion, and acid jazz.
